Is it ok for a doctor to refuse to give a child a flu vaccine who is chronically ill?

Not wise....: Chronic illness is a reason for a child to recieive the flu vaccine. A child with a chronic illness has an increased risk to have flu complications if infected . More likely your child would get vaccine by shot if she/he has chronic problem. Low grade fever <100 f or runny nose is not a contraindication to getting the flu vaccine. You might want to review your doctor's vaccination policy.

Which vaccine: There is ample reason never to give a chronically ill kid the live nasal flu vaccine.The contraindications to its use are well known and given its poor effectiveness the last flu season many didn't even stock it.The injection is a different issue. If the kid had an allergic reaction to any component to that vaccine it may be reason to avoid it, but for most it would be appropriate if not proffered
