Lasers may help: Makeup may hide freckles. Some laser treatments are effective, but freckles my recur. On the other hand, they are not really unattractive, and you have lived with them for a long time.

Freckles: Avoiding sun will certainly help prevent freckles from getting worse but other factors can play a part. You should be seen by your dermatologist and skin care specialist (aesthetician) for a skin care program to help minimize pigmentation.

Not sure: you could have pityriasis alba, but I cannot be sure. You could also have post-inflammatory hypopigmentation, which results from a rash that resolves. While it does not seem serious, you might want to see a dermatologist.

Leave them alone: If you use a freckle remover, even from a dermatologist, you risk disfiguring yourself. Freckles are endearing, they're distinctively you, and a majority of your friends probably like them. Ask them. If you want them less prominent, avoid excess sunlight -- wise in any case.

You may be offered laser treatment. This is an option but it may be pricey, and your results may be so-so. Again, please consider leaving them alone.

A 33-year-old member asked:

How do I get a good tan without getting freckles on my face?

Oxymoron: "Good tan?" Nowadays, most of us are very conscious of the dangers of tanning, especially for fun. And if you're predisposed to freckles, you will have them show up on your face if you get into the sun. As one who's lost a close friend who was once a tanning buff to melanoma (he didn't see it on the back of his shoulder), I'd urge you to avoid recreational tanning and use sunscreen.
