Very: Anovulatory cycles are the most common cause of irregular menses in young women, as much as 50% of cycles during 1st 2yrs after menarche. This irregularity can lead to heavy bleeding. Assuming one doesn't want to get pregnant, hormonal birth control can help regulate function. Of course, these hormonal methods don't prevent sexually transmitted diseases so condoms are still warranted.
