A member asked:

How could inflammation be a part of host defense and also be a characteristic of disease?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Immune system: When your body is sick your immune system causes inflammation to fight infectious processes. When your body incorrectly attacks itself or inadvertently causes inflammation this can be thought of as disease.
