By biopsy: Genital warts are warts on the external surface of the labia. A pap test does brushings for exfoliated cells off the cervix which are then placed into solution to examine the suspended cells by Pap stains and to examine the fluid for HPV. Any external warts have to be biopsied for diagnosis
