Absolute neutrophil: Count (anc) there are different types of white blood cells. The polys or neutrophils fight off baterial and fungal infection so knowing how many there are is important. This is especially the case because many chemotherapy drugs reduce the neutrophil count leaving one open to infection. Knowing the ANC helps doctors determine how vulnerable a patient is to infection or sepsis.
