Had a normal eye exam. is there such a thing as getting prescription that is optional?

Yes but why: You can get a prescription with a zero correction (termed plano) if in fact you like the image of wearing glasses or perhaps want them for a fashion statement. If your exam was normal, then you shouldn't have a refractive requirement. But it is your money.
