No: Varicose veins are enlargement in the veins of the leg usually from pressure on the venous system thru prolonged standing. The veins normally have valves to guarantee that return blood to the heart doesn't pool in the legs. As the valves weaken the downward pressure from standing causes the veins to swell. This is then managed conservatively with elastic stockings.

Veins & Heredity: Yes, it is possible and is probably. Most cases of varicose veins are hereditary, resulting from a gene that leads to faulty vein valves within certain veins of the legs. This was shown to be the case in prior studies of familial varicose veins, with the pattern being either an autosomal dominant pattern with incomplete penetrance or an autosomal recessive pattern. 1/3 of cases are sporadic.

Varicose vein causes: There are many causes of varicose veins including genetics, pregnancies, aging, trauma and poor leg muscle tone. Of all the causes, hereditary factors are the most significant and, in my experience, vein issues are passed on from both mother and father and the veins in the offspring are usually worse when the dad had bad veins.
