A member asked:

What to do if i have half or all of your thyroid removed?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: Hi. If half your thyroid is removed and the remaining half works normally, it will provide you with all the thyroid hormone you'll ever need. If the whole thyroid is removed, you're hypothyroid and need to be on thyroid hormone for life. If it was taken out for cancer, you need enough thyroid hormone to make you a little bit hyperthyroid (your endocrinologist will explain). Good luck!
