Txmt. touch phobia: Haphephobia, or the fear of touch, is a rare but often devastating phobia. Most people with haphephobia fear being touched by anyone, although some people are afraid only of being touched by those of the opposite gender. Haphephobia is sometimes triggered by sexual assault or another trauma, but more often, it seems to develop without any known cause. Haphephobia is typically treated in ways similar to other phobias. Cognitive therapy is often used to try to determine the root of this fear, especially when there is a real cause such as abuse or violence. Behavioral therapy is also typically used to help a person learn to control his or her behavior and to learn to connect stimuli with an appropriate response.
