Unclear: Your question is unclear, what exactly are you concerned about? The radioactive isotope? See an oral surgeon if you are concerned about oral cancer.

Cancer risk: You need to discuss this with your own physician as well as have routine 6 month head and neck oral cancer screenings with an Oral Surgeon. For basic information, see: http://www.epa.gov/radiation/radionuclides/americium.html#use

Am-241: Exposure to any significant amount of am-241 is unlikely under normal circumstances or behaivor. Normal circumstances do not include trying to access or remove the am-241 source in a smoke detector and dangerous for your health. It is true that am-241 poses a cancer risk to all organs of the body. If concerned, check with your PCP.
