Development: At 2 months of age not all children can pick their head up. If your child is able to turn their head side to side while prone, then they are beginning to show signs of being able to pick their head up. Offering tummy time as often as possible throughout the day (while the baby is awake and being watched) will give the baby a chance to work on their muscle development.

If he was full-term,: his pediatrician will check his muscle tone, reflexes & overall physical & neurological status to look for signs of genetic & other medical causes of his gross motor delay. Also, call (713) 696-2130 for an evaluation by Texas' Early Intervention Program, where a team of specialists evaluates infants birth-3 years for eligibility for services, at no cost to the family. No referral is needed.
