Big picture: This is never anything more than one clue in a workup for someone who's symptomatic with illness of some sort. It fluctuates with minor infections. Some physicians here will disagree, but I think it's a poor screen as it leads to troubling, expensive fishing expeditions. If it's high and a person has no other coronary risk factors, what are you going to do? Keep up with the healthy lifestyle.
