Need repeat: Dear Earl78, This means that the radiologist saw something in the top area of the lungs but without clear details, therefore a different way of repeating the chest X-ray (using different position) might help to see better this area of the lung. Another alternative will be obtaining a chest CT scan to evaluate the upper areas of the lungs.

Related to infection: Apical lordotic view is obtained bu angulating xray tube toward head to visualize lung obscured by clavicles. Thickening in this area is often related to secondary tuberculosis. Usually skin testing is performed for confirmation. CT exam would define densities to better advantage and more specific.
