Not so obvious: Diagnosing appendicitis in a toddler can be tricky because they can't tell you exactly where it hurts. Usually appendicitis will cause fever and belly pain. The pain can be episodic but is usually constant. However, a common diagnosis that can cause episodic pain in toddler age children is intussusception, where part of the intestine telescopes in on itself. If the pain persists, call your doctor.
