A doctor has provided 1 answer

Could be: Avascular necrosis means that a portion of the bone has no blood folw and therefore has died. Sometimes this piece may fragment. Thisi in turn may damage joint cartileges around this bone leading to arthritis in the area and wrist pain . If severe, the pain may become significant requiring surgery
