Why have lab tests: You don't know what you don't know. I deal with a proactive approach to health in functional medicine, so I do a lot of labs. Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin, so you want to know your level before you take a very high dose. Being low is a risk factor for osteoporosis, major depression, and even increases your risk for several cancers.
