Heals on its own...: Fracturing the tip of the tail bone can be quite painful, and sitting on a foam doughnut may be necessary for the next few weeks. The only time it ever has to be treated is if it's chronic and the pain does not go away, and then in that case the end of the tailbone can be removed. Severe angulation sometimes requires reduction by an orthopedic spine specialist.
