Can you explain to me how pubic hair develops in girls?

Dr. Deborah Ungerleider answered

Specializes in Pediatrics

Effect of hormones: Pubic hair development in girls is caused by increasing levels of androgens, one of the types of hormones that increase in puberty. This normally occurs between 10 and 12 years of age, but can be a little later or earlier. If a girl has pubic hair much earlier or not till much later, a doctor should examine the child to check for any medical problems causing this.
