A member asked:

What is the effect of opiates on testosterone level?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It can lower it: This is not universal, and depends on the dose and kind of opiates - happens more with long-acting drugs, particularly methadone. They reduce the hormones from the hypothalamus and pituitary which result in the testes producing testosterone, and may produce other hormonal effects as well. Testing can detect this and it can be treated. Reducing dose of opioids, when possible, may also help.
