MRI: The best way to know that someone had a stroke is doing a brain MRI. If someone had a stroke it means that a part of the brain died do to lack of blood flow or rupture of a blood vessel with blood spilling. Recovery occurs by other parts of the brain taking over. Medically, we use "brain death" to signify total loss of brain function or activity (the person is dead & recovery is not possible).
