Testing brain stress: Apgar gives information on the effect, if any, on the physiology of the infant brainstem where automatic breathing controls exist. It is sometimes a forecast of later trouble and i invaribaly ask a mother about the apgar if I am asked to see a child with add/ adhd etc.

APGAR: Virginia apgar was an early researcher in neonatal work & a scoring system was developed using letters in her name to help classify the activity of newborns (&if & how fast drs ought to be helping.) a=appearance; p=pulse rate;g=grimmice, a= activity, r= respiratory effort. It is commonly recorded in a newborn record & filed away. It has little value after the first few minutes.Low scores=bad start
