The issue is that it: can stay in your infant for 4-6 weeks. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that moms & dads abstain from smoking marijuana. The infant both inhales 2nd-hand smoke & gets it thru breast milk. Long-term studies can't be done before legalization. Some studies show sedation, delayed motor development, increased risk of SIDS if either parent smokes, & impaired ability to caretake the infant.

THC accumulates in body fat. Hair follicle + up to 90 days. Scant studies show higher concentration in breast milk than in maternal plasma, + test in breast milk for up to 30 days, but depends on chronicity of use, maternal size & metabolism. Can make baby drowsy, poor feeder; neurodevelopmental effects more likely birth-1 month, but being "stoned" at any time not great for infant development.
