Fragile X Syndrome : Is the most common inherited cause of intellectual disability & the most common single-gene cause of autism. The full mutation shuts down the fragile x mental retardation 1 (fmr1) gene so it can't produce fragile x mental retardation protein (fmrp). Low or absent fmrp affects the levels of many genes needed for neurons to develop & strengthen their connections. See mindinstitute.Org for more.
