How long does a wart remain contagious after it's been pealed/fallen off the body?

Varies: Warts are caused by a virus- a subtype of the HPV (human papilloma virus)- and treatment of warts is not always effective in completely removing the virus from the skin, even if the actual wart and callus-like part of the infection has fallen off. It can take up to two years for the virus to leave your system and you could be contagious until it leaves your body for good.
