Herpes: most everyone has the virus that causes cold sores (herpes simplex). It sticks hidden in nerves. When it pops out frequently the nerves tingle. It only pops out in less than half of those with the virus. No idea about carmex as a preventative and I published the article showing that the Aspirin like agents in it prevent herpes ! (but only given in huge doses). Mostly, carmex makes it feel better.
