A member asked:

Do i need to use backup on mirena (levonorgestrel) if i am in a monogamous relationship and have no worry about std?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: Mirena (levonorgestrel) is very effective contraception. The risk of pregnancy is on the order of 1/1000 per year. If you are in a monogamous relationship, the risk of an std is low. You don't need a back-up method.
