MAO-B inhibitors: Mptp is converted to mpp+ in the mitochondria of glial cells. The formation of the toxic mpp+ can be prevented by the use of mono-amine oxidase b inhibitor like selegeline which is used in the treatment of parkinson's disease. The chlorinated intermediate of mpp+ has been used as a pesticide (paraquat) to prevent the formation of the reactive, free radical generating mpp+ avoid it.
