A member asked:

If a parent has multiple sclerosis, can it be passed on to his or her child?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

MS GENETICS: Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease in people with genetic susceptibilities under specific environmental influences. Certain genes create increased risk such as hla-dr-1, hla-dr-2, and hla-dr-b1, but parental presence is not necessarily directly passed from parent to child and MS is not considered specifically a genetic disorder.
