Zilactin: Zilactin is my favorite. A topical ointment your can buy at your pharmacy. It sometimes stings a little at first but it cleans the wound and it very soon stops hurting and heals quickly. Some dentist have a stronger solution of a similar product on hand in their office. Works the same way. Little more sting, quicker results. If the sore persists more than two weeks you need to see a dentist asap.

Canker sore: A canker sore typically lasts 10 days. Avoid hot, spicy, acidic foods and drinks. Using an OTC product will help you feel better while it heals. If it does not heal or if you get frequent canker sores see a dentist for an evaluation

Canker Sores: Pain from a canker sore generally lessens in a few days and the sores usually heal without treatment in about a week or two.
If sores are large, painful, or persistent, your dentist may prescribe an antimicrobial mouth rinse, a corticosteroid ointment, or a prescription or nonprescription solution to reduce the pain and irritation.

Isolated mouth sore: Cankers are isolated shallow ulcers on the inside of the lip, lining of the cheeks or on the tongue. They hurt even though they're no more than 2-3 millimeters in diameter. No fever. You can't help run your tongue over it - that probably inhibits healing. Multiple ulcers on the lip think herpes type 1. Multiple sores in back of mouth with fever think herpangina or hand-foot-mouth syndrome.

More info needed...: How long have you had the lesion ? Most will resolve on their own in 14 days or less. If you have the lesion for more than 14 days, it's time to call your physician to have it evaluated.
