Only excess fluid: Diuretics will only get rid of excess fluid. After that the body gets dehydrated and you could have serious kidney problems. Diuretics are not part of any serious weight loss program.

ANS: The most I have ever seen is 50 lbs in a person with server HTN when we were first using minoxidil which causes salt retention. The patients pressure was lowered very well with the Minox but she gained 40 lbs of salt and water in about 7 days. We then added lasix (furosemide) and lowered the dose of minor an she lost 50 lbs.
