Menarche: Initial periods by adolescents can vary in length depending on how much estrogen build up of the endometrium (lining of the womb) has occurred. That being said, an initial period lasting 10 days or more is unusual and may need evaluation by a GYN MD or Pediatrician if it continues to occur after the initial period over the next 3 subsequent periods. Adolescent periods are notoriously irregular.
