Depends on type: A middle ear infection will usually feel better after 48 to 72 hours on an oral antibiotic, but it is important to complete the course of antibiotics prescribed. An external ear infection (swimmer's ear) will also feel better after 48-72 hours, but is treated with antibiotic drops. Meanwhile, for either, use ibuprofen or acetaminophen for the pain.
