Painful: A twisted or "torsed" ovary is usually very painful and if not surgically repaired, may lead to surgical removal if not salvageable (lack of blood flow leading to necrosis). Usually this happens if the ovary is enlarged either from fertility meds or benign tumors. If the ovary is larger than 7 cm, you may be at risk. This is usually part of your yearly exam so make sure you get screened for this.
