Depends on age: This varies with the age of the child. Babies under one month of age that have a rectal temp of 101.5 will need a full workup as they are more at risk for an infection related to their birth. Also your babies immunization status is important. Serious infections are more likely in unimmunized kids. Is he feeding well? Does he perk up and smile at you? Are there any contacts with illness?
