Neurochemicals: All sensory organs convert a stimulus (light, sound, heat, cold, touch, pressure, etc.) into an electrical signal which travels up the nerve for the body to respond to that stimulus. There are a variety of neurochemicals that are part of this relay including acetylcholine and epinephrine and many others. The specific one depends upon the circuit in question.
