What is bilirubin : Bilirubin is not a disease but a normal breakdown product of haemoglobin, principal component of your red blood cells. It is excreted in bile and urine, and only elevated levels of it in some occasions may indicate presence of certain diseases. If your bilirubin level is elevated, you need to see your doctor for some additional tests to find the causes of this elevation.
