Spinal nerve exits: Spinal nerves that branch off from your spinal cord exit the bony structure of the spine through holes on both sides called foramina. In your case, nerve C3 exits between the C2 ; C3 vertebrae. If there is narrowing of the hole, it is possible the C3 nerve and be compressed or pinched, leading to a number of symptoms including numbness or pain on the back of your head and neck.

Nerve canals: Every spinal level from first cervical to last lumbar has a nerve on each side that goes thru a bone canal to the body. The bone canal is a hole formed by the facet joints of the vertebrae. If this becomes narrowed by arthritis it can cause nerve pain and even damage. There are specific trays to determine amount of compromise. At your age you should see a doctor to discuss athletics and others.U.
