A member asked:

Is fev1 of 74% acceptable for a 64 year old male? could be a sign of asthma or copd?

Yes that's OK: There are additional lung function tests you had that would help answer your question. Your result of 74% of average might mean a little bit of airway blockage or might be normal depending on the other numbers. Generally people with COPD have much lower lung function. People with asthma may have reduced flow rates (lower fev1) that improve over time or with treatment with medications.

FEV1 and COPD: 74% is low. Normal is at least 80%. This could indicate asthma or COPD depending on your history and symptoms. Go see the doctor who ordered your test.
