A member asked:

I ate a few pieces of a fresh pineapple which left a bad taste in my mouth. it had a red spot inside which i'm guessing was mold. will i get sick?

It depends.....: If the pineapple was rotten (sounds like it was), it's because the ripening process just went too far - possibly due to lack of refrigeration. Depending on the type of bacteria present in the bad parts, you may just have the bad taste issue, or it could make you more sick. Unless you develop symptoms of food poisoning (vomiting, diarrhea, etc), you should go about your business.

Bad spot: Probably bacterial break down rather than mold. If you haven't gotten sick yet, you're probably OK. If you start having GI symptoms, see your GP or Urgent Care.

Acid burn: The red spot may be an acid burn from the pineapple juice. If it persists more than 3-4 days, it would be prudent to see a doctor. Have a healthy diet, exercise 30 minutes/day, drink plenty of water, have safe sex, no tobacco alcohol weed or street drugs. For nutrition: http://www.choosemyplate.gov/.
