Next steps: Have you had your blood counts (cbc), thyroid (TSH) and calcium levels checked? I recommend this lab work be checked to rule out a metabolic cause. If normal, the next step would be a painless procedure called an "anorectal manometry test with balloon expulsion", which tests for a condition called dyssynergic defecation. Your GI may recommend pelvic floor physical therapy.
