Impetigo, contact : Often timea barbae will get crusts and scabs in addition to being red and itchy, and can be easily confused with impetigo, which is a bacterial infection and is treated with antibiotics. If tinea barbae is fairly extensive, it may need to be treated with oral medication instead of topical to get adequate coverage. Contact dermatitis would be something like poison ivy.
