Fetal anomaly vs ROM: The most common reason for low amniotic fluid in the second trimester is a fetal anomaly. Most common anomaly involves the renal system. Rupture of membranes causes 30-40% of low fluid in the second trimester. If the fluid level is very low, pregnancy outcome can be poor.
