A member asked:

How does jaundice present itself in those with dark skin?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Jaundice: So starting with a well-lit room and a penlight, assess for skin color by blanching the skin with digital pressure to reveal underlying skin color. For very dark patients, the palms of the hands & soles of the feet can be used for skin assessment. Check the mucus membranes for yellow discoloration. If you have access to an icterometer or transcutaneous meter, this can be helpful in your assessment.
