What is the best treatment for an inguinal hernia?

Hernia Surgery: Repair with permanent mesh has become the gold standard for inguinal hernia repair in adult males. Debate continues whether the traditional or laparoscopic approach is best: the bottom line is which technique your surgeon performs with the lowest complication & recurrence rates. I favor the laparoscopic approach because, in my hands, the recovery is shorter; this is most evident for double hernias.
