A member asked:

Cleaning up after a cat without actually touching faeces cause toxoplasmosis? can that itself cause mental health issues?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes to #1 ; no to #2: Definitely use gloves and wash hands when cleaning up cat litter. Unfortunately, cats get around, so cows often eat cat feces. You can get toxoplasmosis from undercooked meat or unpasteurized milk. People with healthy immune systems usually have no symptoms. Common symptoms are swollen neck glands. Serious disease is usually inflammation of the eyes. Mental health issues are not usual with toxo.
