Dental Emergency: Rule #1: never put aspirin or any other painkiller against the gums near the aching tooth because it may burn the gum tissue and give you more pain. Rule #2: use OTC NSAIDs every 6 hours or Tylenol (acetaminophen) every 4 hours. Rule #3 tooth pain will not go away on its own, so it's important not to ignore the symptoms.
