See below: Insomnia is a possible side effect of zoloft (sertraline). After discussing w/ your prescribing doctor, one option would be to take it in the morning to avoid the effects. Another is to discuss about switching to another medication. Speak w/ your prescribing doctor about it. Also, you can help to sleep better, by avoiding caffeine, alcohol, ; bright lights near bedtime. Try to regularize your sleep schedule.

It depends.: Insomnia can be very frustrating, and in people who take zoloft, (sertraline) upto 28% can experience insomnia. In medications like zoloft, (sertraline) both benefits and side-effects usually have to be monitored over 4-8 weeks before able to determine if right medicine for you. Of course, if you have any concerning symptoms, you should talk to the prescriber, and if no improvement or worsening, i would discuss with them.
