Baby cries at 4am: Welcome to parenthood. Babies cry usually bc they are ready for a feeding. Could also be soiled diaper, or she wants to be close to mamma. First change diaper then feed her. Walk with her and coo to her as you get the burps up. She should fall back to sleep for 3-4 more hours. If she has colic (uncontrolled crying, pulling knees up in pain) talk to pediatrician. Improves after a few months dr mom!

Allow self-calming: Have a consistent bedtime & routine: read, rock, wipe out her mouth after the last feed, & put her in her own crib drowsy, but awake, to self-regulate falling asleep & consolidate sleep now & you'll prevent sleep problems related to development of implicit memory at 5 mos. & learned behaviors at 6 mos. Expect 5 hours' sleep now, 6-8 hours by 5 mos. Make sure she's fully awake before feeding.
