Variable: Depoprovera is given every 12 weeks for birth control after stopping the shot, some women resume their cycles 4-6 week later. But in some patients there is a delay in resumption of cycles that can last over a year. That is quite rare. You still need to use birth control as soon as the Depo-Provera shot is missed, since you can never know when you will ovulate.

Varies: Don't count on contraceptive protection for more than 3 months from the last shot. However, it can take many more months, occasionally 6 months or more to return to normal fertility and regular ovulatory cycles. They can return more quickly than that but it is very variable.
